Alternative meds, what to do for restless legs syndrome ?

Ronny Nowzari: As odd as it sounds, place a bar of unused soap at the base of your bed (under the sheets). It actually works, but no one who has had success with this method can tell you why.

May Stands: I've read these are supposed to help: drink tonic water-it's very bitter-maybe you could add to juice. Spraying your legs with apple cider vinegar. Changing the temperature of your legs from cold to hot or hot to cold. Doing some light exercise. Not sure if they will work for you. I used have restless legs, but it went away when I stopped drinking caffeine. Hope something here helps you.

Rufus Plough: One alternative may be essential oils that contain the volatile oil derived from plants. Lavender and chamomile both have sedative qualities. Sprigs of lavender placed under a pillow can be used to treat insomnia. The scent of chamomile is another calmative. Four drops of essential oil is mixed with a carrier oil (sweet almond, olive, grape seed). The mixture i! s then rubbed into the legs.A drop of lavender or chamomile can be placed on a light bulb or in a candle to increase overall relaxation during the evening hours. Placed on the pillow case, these oils may prevent the interrupted sleep cycle. RLS is a whole body ailment that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Reduce or eliminate contributing factors from the diet--such as alcohol and caffeine. Get some exercise. Walk three times a week for at least 30 minutes. An over-the-counter sleep aid containing valarian taken before bed may eliminate the interruption of sleep cycle. During the day, drink calming teas, such as chamomile, rather than coffee. Valerian, like chamomile, can be found as a tea. However, the smell is atrocious, making the tea unpalatable to some people. In addition, calcium and magnesium are both sedative. Drink milk or take a combined calcium-magnesium supplement....Show more

Wilburn Denice: I would appreciate answers that ! are not copied and pasted from a search. would prefer ones from those who have experienced it or a natural practitioner. thanks ;)

Brittanie Zakutney: You can try CBD Oil from industrial hemp.

Christiane Cattano: I was prescribed Oxycodone and Klonopin for my very bad case of RLS. I used to get it every single night for two years starting age 15. Oxycodone, I found it to work very well; the discomfort and pain would go away and stay that way for around 6 hours, which I found very convenient.Klonopin was a life saver for me. At 15, I also suffered from insomnia (still do) and I found Klonopin to relieve the pain for the night and also help me sleep. Though, there were nights where it didn't work immediately, so I'd rub both of my legs with IcyHot, and it helped very well until the Klonopin kicked in and send me to sleep.I've heard Requip has been approved for prescription of RLS and have read many good reviews for it. Though, I personally haven't try it. I'd like! to, though and plan on mentioning to my physician and see if it works.I also do yoga to help my restless legs, and have been using it as a method to relieve the pain during the day. I recommend it, but its not certain it'll work, in that case I just take my medication. I also give myself massages in both legs, and apply warm cloths over; it works. All of this has made my RLS milder so I no longer take Oxycodone for it, only Klonopin at night, which is usually when it comes the most. During the day, I can feel it if I stay still for too long, so I try to keep moving.I now take a over-the-counter pain killer during the day IF the discomfort and pain doesn't go away with just moving around. Usually Advil. I also started taking iron supplements for iron deficiency and found the symptoms to decrease. So, I consider that an alternative medicine. If you really don't want western medicine, I recommend you keep a daily exercise routine, practice yoga or any other relaxation, massage! and stretch always every morning, take baths with essential oils, keep! a cool environment while sleeping, avoid caffeine and tobacco, and keep moving during the day with minor resting. And don't hold your urge to move when expierecing the pain/discomfort.RLS is usually a lifetime disorder, but I respect whatever reasons you have for delaying western medicine....Show more
