6th grade special education IEP concerns?

Jerald Florence: Tough to follow everything you were alluding to, but I have some thoughts. While your son may have ADD or ADHD, he may also have other disabilities too. Kids with ADD and ADHD are extremely dependent on circumstances for performance. If they are anxious or distracted, too tired etc...then they have a hard time focusing on even simple things. Auditory processing can be very difficult with distractions. There are no quick fixes or magic tricks with education tho.My suggestion is to be involved with your childs home work. Don't do it for him, but be there, and be encouraging while he is doing it. This builds a bond with your child and helps them not feel isolated while doing their work. Also, this allows you to know what kind of work your child is doing. As long as your child is being challenged, and attempting to do their best work, then they will learn what they are capable of learning. Good Luck....Show more

Iris Shawcroft: It sounds to me! like something else, on top of or along with his current diagnosis. But only a trained professional can diagnose this. Talk to your family physician and ask for a more comprehensive evaluation.
